Every day an old man walked the beach with a pail, picking up starfish that had been washed in by the tide and throwing them back into the sea. On day a young boy stopped the old man and asked, “Why do you throw the starfish back? It doesn’t matter. More will wash up on the shore again tomorrow.” The man picked a starfish out of his pail and threw it as far as he could back into the sea, and replied….”It mattered to this one.”

Co-Pilots are volunteer
adult mentors to children. They are the hidden heroes who inspire and encourage
young people, not because it is written in a job description, but simply
because they care about the young people of East Texas. Co-Pilots provide young people with a special
encouraging relationship that will hopefully become a foundation for success in
that child’s life.
Forever Friends matches
girls with caring women who are willing to fulfill the role of a special person
willing to give extra encouragement and attention and communicate a deep belief
in their potential.
Co-Pilot and Forever Friends mentors meet weekly with their mentees during the day and often around the lunch hour.
Longview’s Partners in Prevention
provides opportunities throughout the year for mentors and mentees
to participate in planned group activities such as field trips or sporting
events to strengthen and celebrate friendships.
