PALs

Peer  Assistance and Leadership

Our mission is to enable students to make better choices by providing positive options in handling problems.  Our PALs work with "Palees" in the elementary, middle, and high school as mentors to help students get through rough times.  The needs vary from school related issues to home life.

PALs are student mentors that help students at our school to deal with their home life, school life, or any other problems they may be having. PALs do not tell the younger students what they can or cannot do; we just listen and reflect on their feelings.  If the younger students need a friend, we play with them.  If they need a shoulder to cry on, we're that shoulder.

In order to become a PALs  mentor, you must sign up in your sophomore or junior year.  You will take an application test.  It is not a test to see how well you do in school but to see how you deal with others.  This means the PALs sponsor will watch you in your classes, in the hall, after school, and/or during lunch.  The sponsor is looking to see your ability to get along with others, and whether you are a positive or negative sort of person.   Once the application is completed and reviewed, the sponsor and the school counselor will ask around about you to see what the other teachers think of you and to see how you act in their classes.  From all of this information, the PALs mentors are chosen for the next school year.

Pals can be a life changing experience.  The class itself helps you to grow in your personality and to help people you don't know.  For example, you can help a young girl or boy learn to read.  The satisfaction of this is amazing and unreal.  Pals is a lasting and incredible experience to be a part of.

This year the PALs have had many successful activities happening at school.  We did the Mix-it-up luncheon with the middle school, we've done the "Manners Meal" with the elementary PALees, helping out at the AR Parties, and "Free Hugs" campaign.  These are just a few of the exciting things we have been doing, look for us on your campus and find out how you can be a part of the PALs program!
