The Texas Bluebonnet Award

The Texas Bluebonnet Award reading program was established in 1979 to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books. A committee selects twenty books from a list that is submitted by librarians  from across the state of Texas. The program is a project of the Texas Association, and is co-sponsored by the Children's round table and the Texas Association of school libraries.

Every year the Texas Library Association selects twenty books as Bluebonnet Award nominees. A student in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade are eligible to cast a vote for the best book of the year after reading 5 Bluebonnet selection. The book with the most votes will be recognized at the Texas Library Association's annual convention, held each April.
