Welcome to second grade. We are going to have a great year! Here are some of the things you will want to know a we start the year! You may want to keep this information handy through out the year.

Daily Folder: Your child will be bring home an orange folder everyday. Please look through the papers on the "keep" side and leave at home. Papers on the "return" side need to be completed or signed and returned the following day.

Discipline: Your child's daily folder will have a 6 week calendar on the front. We will mark your child's behavior daily with a color. All second grade teachers will be using a "card flipping behavior" system. Please initial every night so that we know you have seen it. We will also be using "eagle bucks" for rewards and consequences! These dollars will be "banked" every two weeks and we will have an auction at the end of each semester. Initialing every night is an excellent way for your child to earn "eagle bucks.

Blue: Excellent behavior
Green: Verbal warning
Yellow: 10 minutes no recess
Orange: No recess
Red: Teacher choice (office, note home, run laps depending on offense)

Graded Papers: Graded papers will be sent home in a green folder every Tuesday. Please take the papers out, look through them and keep at home. Sign the dated sheet on the left side of folder and return on Wednesday. Returning on time, EMPTY, and signed would earn your child "eagle bucks."

Absences: When your child returns to school after being absent, please send a note regarding this absence. The notes are turned into the office and kept on file. Your child will have one day for each day he/she is absent to complete makeup work. Your child will receive an "eagle buck" for everyday he/she is present.

AR Reading: We will soon take the STAR test to determine your child's reading level. He/She will be checking out AR books from the library. We encourage the kids to take these books home to read, but they must be brought back daily for class time reading. If your child does not have his/her book daily, they will lose and "eagle buck>" More information will be coming soon..

Conferences: Please feel free to contact us by phone or note if you have a concern. Our conference time is 12:50-1:50. Please schedule conference ahead of time as we also have other meetings and planning sessions during this time. If you need to meet before or after school, these will also need to be scheduled appointments.

Party Invitations: This year we are going to be very strict about passing invitations out at school. Unless your child is inviting the entire class or all boys or all girls, we will not allow them to pass the invitations out. We feel this eliminate hurt feelings and unnecessary classroom disruptions.
